Your Musical Guide

Ms. Merinda will be your guide at the Garden of Music. Though she loves to help plants grow, she is much better qualified to help children blossom as they develop music ability, confidence, and self-expression.

Ms. Merinda's Musical Journey

Merinda's lifelong musical education began from birth in a loving, musical home, and at age 4 with formal piano lessons in the Suzuki Method. Music and movement have always been a part of her life, including modern dance training at the Life Arts Center, many years in The Salt Lake Children's Choir, several community and school dramas and musicals, voice lessons and guitar lessons. She loves bringing music into the lives of everyone around her in any way she can.

Ms. Merinda completed a bachelor's degree in teaching from Brigham Young University. She has taught English, literacy, and music in Mexico, Washington, D.C. Austin, Texas, and, most recently, New Delhi, India. She taught private piano lessons five years before shifting her focus to teaching Musikgarten group classes. She finds them a great way to prevent young students from losing enthusiasm for music, and is thrilled to see how quickly her keyboard students can learn while still retaining their contagious enthusiasm.

Merinda is a licensed Musikgarten instructor. She has completed the Musikgarten teacher training certification for Cycle of Seasons (ages 2-5), Music Makers (ages 4-7), and Music Makers at the Keyboard (ages 6-9).

You will often find Merinda singing or playing the piano in her community and church, but more often you will find her chasing around her three energetic boys!
